What to Expect - Assessment:
During the initial assessment, Elaine will establish:

  • the concerns that you have for your child
  • the nature of the difficulties that your child is experiencing
  • a history of your child’s health & development to date, any previous & current medical, surgical and therapy interventions
  • an understanding of your child’s physical abilities and challenges
  • an understanding of your child’s wider developmental abilities and how these interact with their physical development
  • what you would like your child’s physiotherapy treatment to achieve

Initial assessments last for up to 1 to 1½ hours depending on the complexity of your child’s needs.
This will be achieved through discussions with yourself and observations of your child.  As required and appropriate, there will also be a clinical assessment which could include any of the following, depending on the nature of your child’s difficulties:

  • assessing muscle tone, joint ranges of movement and muscle length
  • assessing muscle strength and functional muscle strength
  • assessing for muscle imbalance and body asymmetries
  • analysing your child’s posture in all the positions that are appropriate to their stage of development
  • analysing how your child moves and their movement patterns

From the assessment, Elaine will establish the main difficulties that you child is experiencing and design a physiotherapy treatment and management plan (including recommended treatment frequency) individual to your child. This will be discussed with you and your child as appropriate.

Physiotherapy Treatment:
